Prescription Monitoring Programs (PMPs) have been described by the Office on National Drug Control Policy, and other federal agencies as "among the most promising resources in reducing the diversion and illicit use of prescription medications." In March, 2012, John Eadie, of the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) Center of Excellence presented a Children's Safety Network (CSN) webinar on PDMP's. Dr. Eadie, and his colleague, Tom Clark, will update us on PDMP developments that have occurred over the past two years, provide information about how you may contact your states' PDMP, and give examples of the types of information that may help you protect children and youth in your communities and state.
About the Presenter:
John Eadie is director of the PDMP Center of Excellence at Brandeis University. He has served in management, executive, and consulting capacities in the field of public health for forty-three years. As Director of the Division of Public Health Protection in the NY State Department of Health from 1985 to 1995, he directed the State’s pharmaceutical diversion program, including the PDMP. He co-founded both the Alliance of States with Prescription Monitoring Programs (ASPMP) and the National Association of State Controlled Substances Authorities (NASCSA), served as President for both organizations and held other posts. Tom Clark is the Clearinghouse Manager at the PDMP Center for Excellence and Senior Research Associate with the Institute for Behavioral Health at Brandeis University. Mr. Clark has extensive experience in prescription monitoring program project management, evaluation and research.
