Bullying Prevention Topic Call Summary

November 10th, 2025, 4:00 – 5:00 PM ET

Attendees:

  • CSN: Lauren Gilman, Shannon Reynolds
  • Massachusetts: Silvia Mendez (Gandara Center), Tatiana Begault (MassCOSH)
  • Indiana: Sarah Iwinski-Wallace

Many of you were not able to join our Bullying Prevention topic call on November 10th (note to self: do not schedule events on the Monday before a federal holiday!). To those of you who did participate, thank you for an engaging and informative conversation.

For those who could not make it: We spent the first part of the meeting going over how to develop a SMART Aim Statement and SMART Goal (see attached slides). Next, we discussed areas of shared interest and focus among team members, as a way of encouraging the sharing of resources and strategies. States/jurisdictions who are new to the CSLC this year are at various points in a landscape analysis or needs assessment process, and several of you are working towards the same Change Ideas related to supporting schools and communicating information about bullying.

December Events:

  • We hope that many of you will join us for the shared BP/SSHP (Suicide and Self-Harm Prevention) Office Hours on Thursday, December 4th at 2pm ET. (Link is in calendar invite; please contact me if you didn’t receive it.) These sessions are an opportunity to ask questions, get support, and connect with peers without a structured agenda.
  • I just learned of an interesting event which, unfortunately, coincides with our office hours. On December 4th at 2pm, he Harvard T.H Chan School of Public Health is offering Cultivating compassion: Strategies for bullying prevention, presented jointly with the American Repertory Theater. If you sign up, you should be able to access a recording after the event.
  • Our next State Technical Assistance Webinar (STAW) will take place on Wednesday, December 17th from 2:00 – 3:00 ET. The topic, Building Partnerships Across State Agencies for Statewide Impact, is relevant to many of you. Please feel free to share the link with anyone else at your organization or in your state who you think might be interested.

State Updates from the Topic Call:

Indiana – Sarah Iwinski-Wallace noted that their state Title V priorities include bullying as a topic of focus. They are working on gathering data and information from a range of school districts, to determine what types of bullying prevention strategies are happening across the state, and what is most effective. After this landscape analysis, they will identify an audience of focus and a strategy to broaden implementation.

Massachusetts – Tatiana Begault, Executive Director of MassCOSH (the Massachusetts Coalition for Occupational Safety and Health) discussed the development of a new anti-bullying curriculum aimed at reducing bullying in the workplace. They are conducting focus groups with both youth and adult workers, as well as experts in bullying prevention and labor relations, to inform the content of this curriculum. Silvia Mendez of the Gandara Center discussed their engagement in a statewide bullying prevention work group. Both organizations work in partnership with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.
